I wish I could buy another one of these!
We got our SRi Cavalier as anew company car in 1989. We later bought it from my husband's company and owned it until 2005.
This was a luxury car with smooth running and plenty of oomph at all speeds. It could accelerate easily to get you out of trouble and you seldom had to select lower gears to get up slopes and hills.
The Cavalier holds so much stuff in the boot that you never had to worry when going away on holiday. We had no difficulty packing up for a family of five. We never had any problems with the cars performance even when fully loaded.
There was one disadvantage. It was a magnet for car thieves and scallies looking for a joy ride. Ours was stolen five times and there were other attempts. We solved the problem eventually by painting out the SRi logos on the car.
I've been driving Cavaliers now since 1989 (this is my third) and I've found them to be a reliable, practical and efficient.
I don't want to spend £1000s on a brand new car - I prefer the second-hand market, and want a good, solid car with low running costs that won't let me down.
I don't buy a car to 'pose' in or impress people - I just want a good car that will get me from A to B with the minimum of fuss.
The reliability of these cars is excellent, and I'll be sad when the day finally comes that I have to part company with it.
It's unlikely my next car will be a Cavalier, as there aren't many around these days, and I'd probably want a slightly newer car than the 18-year-old I have now!
But I love my car, and it's been worth every penny of the £950-odd I paid for it :-)
