Earlier this year I had to replace my G reg Paejero which I bought second hand in 2004 because the body rust was getting to be a problem. Also the spedometer had bouts of being noisy which I put down to wear after its 444 975 Kms of driving; yes same engine delivering 32 MPG to the last drive.
I luckily managed to buy an identical, even down to the awful colour, pajero. H reg and a mere 191 548 km on the clock. I am having to change the flywheel on this, ready for the next 10 years of driving.
These mircal of engeneering have never let me down and they go off road very well. I had one worrying experience when during flooding, a wave broke over the bonnet and I lost power steering for a while but I stuck it in reverse and got out of trouble.
If you are lucky enough to find a MK 1 LWB Pajero 2.5 manual, buy it and feel smug
I have had the car four years and the running costs are good for the type.Tyre choice is important and I use Bridgestone D689 for my requirements , which is road use.I change the engine oil every 2500 miles with a good quality brand.Change all oils in drive line and gear box as specified.Buy a Haynes manual or similar and read it.Dont purchase the first car you see and take a friend with you to look round with you.to finish check all v5 details against car and make sure that not stolen.check reg number against tfl list to make sure you can drive the car in London.
