New Volvo S60 Concept inspired by Swedish cliffs

The Swedish cliffs and coastline have inspired the shape of the new Volvo S60 Concept, the first pictures of which have been revealed today.

This information could be a useful talking point for used Volvo dealers when selling the car in a few years’ time.

Volvo Cars’ design director Steve Mattin is the man who has disclosed how the landscape of the Scandinavian seaside was integral to the car’s appearance and he thinks that the interior – where "the focus has been on creating a vision of the future" – is even more daring.

He is referring to a floating centre stack constructed from hand-crafted Orrefors crystal which runs from the instrument panel to the rear seat backrest.

Mr Mattin said: "In a concept car the aim is to give your imagination a free rein and our iconic super-slim centre stack was the perfect object.

"Using pure crystal is a thrilling experiment. We may well see interior features in crystal-like materials in the future."

The car will be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January next year, prior to its full launch in 2010.
