Parking in spaces which are too tight to open the doors properly could
be a matter of just pointing a remote control if you own a Volkswagen.
Park Assist Vision, which is planned to be fitted to the Passat, uses
electromechanical power steering, the electronic parking brake, the
selection lever of the automatic-drive vehicle (DSG) set to ‘P’ and the
engine power produced by the idling mixture. Cameras at the front and
rear of the vehicle, and ultra sound, guide the vehicle at the press of
a remote control fob which can start and stop the process at any point.
This completely automatic parking is an extension of the semi-automatic
park-steering system in the Touran, Tiguan, Passat and Passat estate
that currently helps Volkswagen owners parallel-park.
Demonstrations of the perpendicular parking can be seen at the Hanover
Motor Fair from April 21st to April 25th.
