Volkswagen Golf GTI returns with sixth generation

A return to the focus of the past has been witnessed in the sixth generation of the Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Motorists can now begin to order the latest edition of the popular hot hatch, with the vehicle following a similar path to that which first made it successful almost 36 years ago.

While including the same sharp dynamics, alongside a responsive four-cylinder engine, the car has also evolved.

The latest Golf GTI is faster, more powerful, cleaner, safer and more fuel-efficient than past offerings, mainly because of the inclusion of a new engine.

A top speed of 149 miles per hour can be reached through the 2.0-litre TSI engine, while emissions have fallen from 189 to 170g/km and fuel consumption rises to 35.3 miles to the gallon.

Meanwhile, the GTI’s appearance has also evolved, with the sixth generation coming with an aggressive new front bumper, while at the rear a diffuser is situated between an all-new exhaust system.

A past review of the Volkswagen Golf Hatchback by What Car? commented on the vehicle’s "brilliant balance between comfort and control".
