The makers of the VW Golf think that the car is the "most technically-advanced model" in the range.
The sixth generation Golf went on sale in the UK last week and is likely to retain much of its value – good news for used Volkswagen dealers.
Currently available in a choice of four advanced petrol and two common rail diesel engines, petrol power outputs range from 80 to 160 PS, with the two diesels, offering 110 or 140 PS.
Low consumption and emissions credentials are virtually guaranteed as both have a standard diesel particulate filter.
At present there are three trim levels on offer; namely S, SE and GT. Those prepared to wait until later in the year will also have the choice of GTI, GTD (high performance diesel) and BlueMotion variants.
Air conditioning, a CD stereo system and body-coloured exterior trim come as standard equipment on all of the new Golfs, together with seven airbags.
One of the new Golf’s many firsts is a knee airbag to enhance safety.
