Vauxhall have released the first pictures of its new ADAM – an ‘urban chic’ £11,000 fashion-led A-Sector car which can be personalised in over a million ways, according to the British car manufacturer.
Design to go up against the MINI and Fiat 500, the three-door, four-seater car will be unveiled for real at the Paris Motorshow later this year before hitting UK showrooms in the early part of 2013.
Among the ADAM’s most striking design features is a ‘floating’ roof which delivers real on-road impact, and includes a striking LED-lit starlight roof trim. ADAM features a wing-shaped chrome grille bar similar to the new Vauxhall Astra and cutaway details on the handle/lower door.
At launch, ADAM will be available in ‘fashionable’ JAM, ‘elegant’ GLAM and ‘sporty’ SLAM. There are two different roof colours while internal colours, equipment and materials can be personalised. Also, the ADAM will be the first car in the A-Sector to include the option of daytime LED lights.
Brit Mark Adams, Vauxhall/Opel’s Vice President of Design, noted:
“No other car in this segment can be individualised as much as ADAM because we are offering virtually unlimited exterior/interior colour, fabric and kit combination choices. It’s very unlikely that you’ll find two identical ADAMs out there.”
Under The Hood
ADAM will be offered with three ecoFLEX four-cylinder petrol engines. There’s a 1.2-litre 70PS version alongside two 1.4-litre engines with 87PS and 100PS. All three cars are available with optional Start/Stop technology and a five-speed manual gearbox. Later in the year, the ADAM range will include a turbo-charged six-speed gearbox.[related_posts]
There’s an automated parking system (though drivers will have to control the brake, clutch and gears) and blind spot alert system, as well as Vauxhall’s ESP and Hill Start Assist. Handling on urban roads is enhanced by a CITY mode, which increases power steering at lower speeds. Wheel sizes range from 16, to 17/18 inch rims with a standard lowered sports chassis.
On The Dash
ADAM supports Bluetooth, connectivity for Android or Apple iOS, and access to GPS navigation. There’s also a seven-inch, full-colour touchscreen. The instrument are housed in chrome bezels and there’s an optional heated steering wheel.
ADAM has front, side and head curtain airbags, dual seat belt pre-tensioners for front occupants and offer additional knee and leg protection. There are ISOFIX points for child seats.
