“Performance-focused” model added to Auris range

A new "performance-focused" T180 model has been added to the Auris range, an arrival which Toyota claims will add "maximum impact" to the line’s transformation of the C-segment hatchback market.

A 2.2-litre, four-cylinder engine will feature in the car and is one of the most powerful, but also one of the cleanest, units among all diesels in its class, according to Toyota.

This engine enables the T180 to travel from 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds. Six-speed manual transmission also delivers impressive in-gear performance, with the car capable of accelerating from 50-75mph in 8.4 seconds.

Such performance is not at the expense of the environment, however, with Toyota’s D-Cat clean diesel technology helping to keep carbon emissions down to 164g/km.

New rear suspension has been fitted in the T180, allowing the model to make best use of the 175bhp on offer, while stopping power has been enhanced with larger brake discs.

Some stylistic alterations have been made on the outside of the car, with 17-inch alloy wheels and smoked glass headlamps on offer, while on the inside there is an electric sunroof, dual-zone air conditioning and cruise control.

The Auris T180, which is available in both three- and five-door guises, is available now and has been released to coincide with the launch of the three-door versions of the Auris T2 and T3.
