New safety options for Yaris and Rav4

Toyota has announced that it is introducing a range of new safety features to its Yaris and Rav4 ranges, with the intention of offering drivers "the highest possible level of active safety protection".

Across the complete Yaris line, the automaker has incorporated vehicle stability control (VSC) and traction control (TRC) as additional options.

Toyota’s integrated active drive system, which includes VSC and TRC, has been made available as an option on the Rav4 XT3. The facility is currently provided as standard on all other Rav4 models.

According to the manufacturer, the value of stability control has been demonstrated by safety research across the world. The system works by automatically adjusting engine power and individual wheel braking when loss of grip or an imminent skid is detected.

Traction control aids handling by preventing wheelspin as a car is pulling away or driving on low-grip surfaces.

These additions complement the existing safety features of the two lines. All versions of the Yaris currently employ ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, as well as driver and front passenger airbags.

The Rav4 benefits from the performance of electric power steering, as well as an active torque control four-wheel drive system, delivering secure handling in all conditions.
