Lewis Hamilton has explained why he thinks McLaren could have the edge over Formula One title rivals Ferrari.
In an interview conducted while he was doing some demonstration drives around Brands Hatch, and just published by Crash.Net, the 23-year-old Brit revealed his belief that tyres could be the key to the outcome of the next few races.
"I think in the last couple of races on the softer tyres Ferrari have had a little bit more pace than us, but as we go to the next few circuits and we have the harder tyres again, I think we will be a lot closer to them – if not perhaps just a little bit better."
He backed up his analysis after the interview by recording an impressive best lap of 1 minute, 22.97 seconds during testing at Monza ahead of this month’s Italian Grand Prix.
The time was one-third of a second slower than Nick Heidfelds Thursday benchmark but some 0.4 seconds ahead of his closest Friday rival, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
Red Bull’s David Coulthard is obviously taking the Monza circuit seriously – completing 120 laps, more than two race distances.
