Ferrari ‘unhappy’ with Singapore circuit

The Ferrari president has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Singapore race circuit which hosted Formula One’s first-ever night-time race last weekend.

Luca di Montezemolo: "When we race on tracks which should be used for the circus, anything can happen including the spectacle of the safety car."

The topsy-turvy Singapore race had two safety car interventions, the first of which proved vital in contributing to Spaniard Fernando Alonso’s unexpected victory for Renault.

There is some consistency in Montezemolo’s opinions as he commented before the race that street circuits and the lack of overtaking opportunities were not the right way forward for the sport.

But Lewis Hamilton and his McLaren team might take some heart from the fact that a certain paranoia seems to be creeping into the Ferrari team’s mentality as season’s end approaches.

The Ferrari president refused to blame the mechanics who gave Massa the green light during a pit stop despite the fuel hose still being attached to the car as he sped away.

He said: "We have extraordinary mechanics who on other occasions have swung results our way."
