A new multimedia system is being launched on the Peugeot 407, offering a facility for mp3 music playback and satellite navigation.
The RT4 system will have a 30GB hard drive and 180 hours of music playback capability and will be installed on the 407 saloon, SW and coupe models.
Features incorporated into the system include complete mapping of 30 countries in Europe, which will be stored on the hard disk, a colour screen with a 3D view, faster processing time for destination calculations and improved reception for radio information.
A voice synthesis and recognition facility, which is intended to make use of the system more safe and practical, has also been developed.
One of the main benefits of an in-built satellite navigation and music playing device is that it eliminates the possibility of theft that comes with portable applications which are manually connected to the car and have to be removed every time the car is left unattended.
The sat-nav system in the Peugeot 407 is expected to be a popular option as the devices have reportedly experienced sales growth of 540 per cent between 2003 and 2006.
