Peugeot to launch new “hot hatch”

Peugeot has announced that it will launch the new 207 GTi in June and described the car as a "day-to-day hot hatch".

According to the automaker this new model will "write the next chapter in Peugeot’s history of small performance cars", as the 205 GTi did in the 1980s and the 206 GTi 180 has done recently.

The car will be powered by a 1.6-litre, turbo high-pressure engine, capable of generating 175bhp and a maximum speed of 137mph, with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Good road holding is ensured through the car’s solid structural design and proven suspension setup while an electronic stability programme (ESP), which can be turned off, also offers further control.

Other vehicle features include Bridgestone Potenza tyres mounted on 17-inch, nine-spoke alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and a trapezoid twin-chrome exhaust.

A steering stability programme is one of the car’s innovations, which manages the cooperation between the ESP system and the power steering, aiding braking on surfaces with varying levels of grip.

This feature has helped the Peugeot 207 GTi, which will be fully launched in June this year, achieve a five-star Euro NCap safety rating.
