The Peugeot 207 is to receive a power boost in the form of a new 1.6-litre, 16v engine, the automaker has announced.
Two models will be powered by the new setup – which has been designed in cooperation with the BMW group – the 207 Sport and the 207 SE.
New technology has been introduced in the engine which, according to Peugeot, is a "genuine first for a vehicle in the B segment".
A variable valve timing system and a variable valve lift system have been incorporated, which refine the way that the engine is controlled, improving efficiency and reducing fuel consumption.
Sequential and automatic Porsche Tiptronic gearboxes will also be available with the Peugeot 207.
According to the automaker, a facility in the sequential version will protect engine components by switching automatically to a higher gear before maximum permitted engine speed is reached and also reverting automatically to first gear when the car is stationary.
