Nissan Motor Manufacturing has agreed a deal with a logistics firm to support the production of vehicles including the Nissan Micra in Sunderland.
A contract has been signed with NYK Logistics, which will see the company provide inbound logistics services to its manufacturing facility in the Tyne and Wear city.
The company will also ensure that around 800 different model parts from 47 UK-based suppliers arrive at the facility, which will be needed to help the production of the Micra, alongside the Nissan Note and Qashqai.
Paul Maddison, of GM NISA supply chain management, said: "Nissan recently conducted a tender for our UK logistic business. Through an intensive activity, NYK were successful in being awarded the contract.
"Nissan is pleased to expand its logistic scope with NYK, developing future improvement activity plans for a successful business relationship moving forward."
According to a review of the Nissan Micra by Top Gear, there are no problems with the way the vehicle is made as it is "nigh-on bomb proof", while the materials used are top of the range.
