September sales see Land Rover set record

British car manufacturer Land Rover is celebrating after another successful sales month.

Some 25,993 of its vehicles were sold over September, with activity fuelled by the Freelander 2 4×4 model.

The company’s figures for the period represent its best performance in 714 months of business, 34 per cent up on the month one year earlier.

In Russia and China, emerging markets for the firm, sales increased by 105 per cent and 249 per cent respectively.

According to Land Rover managing director Phil Popham, this is a "great achievement".

He said: "It’s always satisfying to break past records. We can now approach our 60th anniversary next year with confidence. I want to see the business move forwards responsibly, profitably and in a sustainable manner."

The Warwickshire-based company recently stated that it will be cutting the carbon emissions of its vehicles by 20 per cent by 2012.
