New Jeep Wrangler ‘will surprise customers’

Jeep’s new range of Wrangler models will be launched in the UK next month and the manufacturer has claimed that the 4x4s will "surprise drivers".

The automaker states that its ability to maintain the "rugged" look and feel of the Jeep brand while also delivering off-road ability and on-road dynamics will be an unexpected offering for motorists.

Jeep’s original formula has been combined with an all-new frame, exterior and interior design, new engines, ESP and brake traction control.

These features will reportedly allow the Wrangler range, which includes a two-door model and the four-door Unlimited variant, to deliver "more capability and on-road refinement" without losing the character that defines the Jeep brand.

Peter Lambert, managing director of Chrysler UK, said: "The new model is a significant step forward from the old vehicle, as it offers a diesel engine for the first time, a choice of two-door and four-door models, much better road manners, reduced noise levels, a host of safety features and an all-new interior with space for five adults and their luggage.

"We expect the new Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited to attract attention from people that currently buy the Land Rover Defender as a family vehicle."

The majority of Wrangler 4x4s sold in the UK will be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine, offering 174bhp, but there will also be a Rubicon model, with a 3.8-litre petrol powerplant and a range of additional off-road features.
