If you’re after a new family car, then it’s likely that you’re met with a wealth of options. It’s also likely that almost all of them are absolutely brilliant. Nowadays, the family car is at the heart of every major company’s range of vehicles. From Ford to Seat to Vauxhall, there’s something to suit every possible taste, budget and requirements. But, what do we think are the best around? Here’s our list of favourites:

Volkswagen Golf Hatchback

image001Volkswagen is the hallmark of quality, and they’re also relatively cheap to run. The great thing about the Golf is that we are currently in the seventh generation (barring electric models) and this means that many of the early teething issues have been sorted. Over the years, the Golf has grown with its audience, making it the perfect family car. Now, 35 years after it was first built, it continues to sell incredibly well.

Plus, no matter what you want the car for, there’s an option for you. Most Golf variants are already economical, typically averaging just over 80 mpg. But there are also sport models available, as well as the Type R. The perfect car for all the family, it’s hard to be disappointed by a Golf. Check out our full range here.

Hyundai i30 Hatchback

If you’re primarily looking for a comfortable, smooth ride, then look no further than the Hyundai i30. One of the quietest family cars available on the market, the i30 is perfect for long trips with the kids.

Going back a decade or so, many prospective buyers were wary of cars such as the Hyundai because of their supposedly inferior build quality. However, although a Hyundai is never going to give you the build quality of something like a BMW, the gap between the two is considerably narrower than it once was, thus making the Hyundai i30 the perfect budget family car.

In fact, Hyundai are now so sure of their build quality that they’re offering an excellent, competitive five year warranty option. With very good fuel economy to boot, what’s stopping you? Check out our full range here.

SEAT Leon Hatchback

If you’re after something with the build quality of the VW at a fraction of the price, then look no further than the SEAT Leon. The SEAT shares many of the same parts with the VW, meaning that you get all of the build quality and the driving fun for thousands of pounds less.

Of course, as you’d expect, the engine in the Golf is superior, but there’s still a range of SEAT engines to choose from, so you can make it as efficient or fast as you’d like. Interested? Check out our full range here.

With a choice of 1.2 litre and 1.6 litre turbo petrol engines or 1.5 or 1.6 litre diesels, there’s an engine in the Qashqai range to suit your needs.

Nowadays, the Qashqai has been improved even further, offering more space, and more technology. Check out our full range here.
