Easy over ice!

A group of Finnish students have sped an electric race car prototype across a frozen lake, clocking a top speed of 161mph!

The stunt was captured in a promotional video for Nokian Tyres as driver Janne Laitinen strapped himself into the E-RA (Electric RaceAbout) and flew across Lake Ukonjärvi in Inari, Finland.

The E-RA was built from scratch by Finnish students, using the latest technology in battery systems and electric power trains. The experiment was partially to prove that electric cars can function in extremely cold weather, and at high speeds on slippery, icy terrain. The record for driving across ice is 331.61km/h while driving on the ice of the Gulf of Bothnia last March, also set by Laitinen.
