Too much information

New car buyers are being swamped by too many choices, EurotaxGlass has discovered.

There are currently 7,000 models available, as opposed to the 4,000 on sale at the start of the millennium.

Adrian Rushmore, managing editor at EurotaxGlass, explains: "The problem for customers is that they are overwhelmed by choice, making it increasingly difficult for them to make informed decisions.

"Manufacturers face problems too, as they must communicate to customers about a much wider range of new models – some of them occupying new niche segments unfamiliar to buyers – when their rivals are trying to do the same thing."

It is predicted that new car registrations will fall by 100,000 units in 2008, to leave 2.3 millions new cars purchased.
