Although not too much is known about the upcoming Vauxhall Astra, the inclusion of a new engine has worked wonders on the current model, it has been stated.
Writing in the Daily Record, Bill Caven highlights that Vauxhall need to register success with their awaited Astra as the manufacturer has fallen behind its rivals in the sector.
With Ford releasing a new Focus and Volkswagen an improved Golf, the pressure is on Vauxhall and the new Astra, which is due out in the latter part of the year.
However, solace can be taken in the current Astra and the success it has witnessed thanks to the addition of an eco-friendly version to the range in recent months.
Mr Caven reveals that Vauxhall has tweaked its 1.7-litre engine to become more fuel efficient while reducing CO2 emissions, which has resulted in the generation of only 119g/km of C02.
Also, the Ecoflex model is capable of getting almost 63 miles to the gallon, despite the changes causing the vehicle to have more power.
The overall verdict of the Vauxhall Astra from Top Gear is that it is "a good compact hatch with all the basics covered".
