New course teaches ‘extreme driving’

Motorists in the UK can learn how to best cope with extreme driving conditions thanks to a new course.

The DriveSafe programme, launched by Rockingham, allows drivers to pick up techniques for dealing with the most harsh of motoring scenarios in their own cars.

Such a class could help people stay safe on the roads over the winter period and would make an ideal present for a loved one this Christmas, the firm believes.

The company stated that 60 per cent of accidents on highways that result in fatalities usually happen once a vehicle begins to skid.

Charlotte Orton, director of sales and marketing for Rockingham, stated that this is a key component of the scheme.

She said: "We encourage the use of their own vehicle so in a real-life emergency they will know exactly what to do and how their car will react."

Department for Transport figures show that some 3,150 people were killed on roads in the UK during 2006.
