New research conducted by global information services company Experian has discovered that London has seen the biggest boom in sales of used 4x4s and used diesel cars.
The latest used car sales figures from Experian revealed that sales of used diesel cars increased by 14.3 per cent in Greater London compared to the national average of just 10.1 per cent.
Greater London was the area to experience the highest increase in the sale of used 4x4s and the second highest increase in the sale of used multi-purpose vehicles – both are bigger engine vehicle types.
It seems that London is more resistant to the credit crunch than other regions – total used car sales in Greater London increased by 0.1 per cent, while total used car sales throughout Great Britain fell by 0.5 per cent.
Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian’s automotive division, said: "Car buyers are more aware of the cost of running a car these days and if the rapid increase in fuel prices continues, we will see a more rapid growth in the sale of alternative fuel cars."
