A public consultation into the price of driving tests has been undertaken by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).
The organisation is looking into the possibility of introducing assistants to help learners with hearing difficulties take their theory test and respond to any queries.
In addition, the body has announced that it intends to hike up the cost of the cognitive assessment for car and motorcycle applicants by £1.50 from April 1st 2008.
However, the national company added that the increase in prices will not be exclusive to learners – but includes teachers too.
"DSA is also seeking views on proposals to increase the fees for the
qualification tests taken by people wanting to become approved driving
instructors and for our non-statutory activities," the body added.
Currently, the age at which it becomes legal for a teenager to attempt to gain his or her driving licence is 17.
