The award for car of the year has been bestowed upon the Ford Mondeo, it emerged today.
Experts at motoring magazine Auto Express agreed that the Mondeo deserved the top prize, while editor-in-chief David Johns said it was "Ford’s finest ever car".
It also picked up accolades in the best estate car and family car categories.
"The car oozes quality, especially in the cabin which has levels of equipment and comfort which sets new standards for the class," Mr Johns continued.
Among other winners was the Vauxhall Corsa, which was awarded the title of best supermini, with the Citroen C4 Picasso taking home best multi-person vehicle and the Honda Civic being voted best compact family car.
In addition, its Type R model was named as the best "hot hatch" of the year.
Trivia fans may be interested to know that the latest James Bond film Casino Royale saw the eponymous spy driving a Ford Mondeo.
Meanwhile, the latest advertising campaign for the car includes a number of the vehicles being lifted into the sky by helium balloons.
