Most motorists expect to cover 12,000 miles per year but some drivers
seem to take their cars further than others.
The top three cars for distance travelled are Ford Mondeo (00-) which clocks up an average of 15,483 miles in a year, the Saab 9-5 (01-) which travels about 14,774 miles on average closely followed by the Renault Laguna (00-) with an average odometer reading of 14,571 miles.
There are also cars whose drivers hardly seem to need to pull into a
fuel station between annual services, however.
"This kind of information could prove invaluable when buying a used
car," said Warranty Direct’s Duncan McClure Fisher.
"For example, you may find a four-year-old Nissan Micra with 30,000
miles on the clock and think it’s a low mileage machine but in reality
it’s just the average. With a bit of shopping around you could probably
find even better."
Small town cars, such as the Nissan Micra and the Daewoo Matiz are
averaging around 7,000 miles per year, with sportier models such as the Mercedes SLK and BMW Z3 also spending more time on the driveway than on the highway – by averaging 7,500 miles.
