The Ford Focus proved itself as the top selling car in July of this year, a new report from motor industry organisation SMMT has discovered.
Taking into account the number of vehicles registered during the calendar month, SMMT put the Focus at the top spot, followed by the Vauxhall Astra.
Another hatchback – the Vauxhall Corsa – took third place, while the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf rounded off the top five.
SMMT also noted that sales of multi-purpose vehicles had increased by 34.2 per cent during July, while demand for superminis rose by five per cent throughout the course of 2007 so far.
"In spite of interest rate rise concerns and the traditional quiet holiday period, new car registrations have exceeded expectations," remarked Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the organisation.
Ford currently manufactures various models of the Focus, including the Sport, Ghia and LX versions.
