Ford Focus drivers to be alert to motorbike danger

Ford Focus drivers may need to be aware of motorbikes more than any other drivers, according to the results of a new study.

Bennetts Insurance has revealed in the past year the Focus has been responsible for 14 per cent of all motorbike accidents involving a car.

This is the second year in succession that the Focus has topped this particular statistic.

Meanwhile, the Ford Fiesta is the next most likely to be involved in an accident with a motorbike, followed by the Vauxhall Astra.

Further findings of the study, which analysed claims for the year up to July 2008, highlight that motorbike accidents are most prone to happening on a Tuesday, with the weekends proving to be the safest time for a biker to hit the road.

London is considered to be the most dangerous destination for a person to hop on their bike, with south-west London topping the study for the fourth straight year.

To help boost the safety of the Focus, Ford has equipped the vehicle with features including rain-sensing wipers and a tyre deflation protection system.

Emergency Brake Assist is also fitted to help reduce stopping distances in times of an emergency.
