The product design of the Ford Fiesta has been recognised by a host of experts as the vehicle has been given a ‘red dot’ award.
Some 28 leading designers and design experts made up the independent jury, with the team concluding that the Fiesta was top when it comes to design.
Among the areas that the jury focused on were innovation, functionality and quality, with the overall feeling being that the "new Fiesta is one of the most stylish cars in the world".
Martin Smith, executive design director at Ford of Europe, said: "It is particularly encouraging to see that our new small car was singled out for its innovative, expressive design by some of the world’s leading designers.
"Research shows that whether they are in Milan, Beijing or New York, customers put style at the top of their list"
The new Fiesta has proved an instant hit since its release onto the market seven months ago, with 35,642 vehicles sold in the timeframe.
Channel Four recently indicated after a road test of the Ford Fiesta Econetic that the vehicle is "frugal" and provides motorists with "decent handling".
