The Fiat 500 supermini has been picked up the Best Small Car of the Year award from television programme Fifth Gear.
Producer of the show James Woodroffe commented that this was "arguably" the most important accolade it gives out as more people in the UK buy into the small car sector of the market than any other.
He added that the Fiat 500 appeals to consumers as it offers a supermini without compromise "that does not feel like it’s built to a budget".
Furthermore, its recent Euro NCAP five star crash safety rating makes it one of the safest cars in Europe.
"The Fiat 500 fits the bill better than anything else we’ve driven this year and was a unanimous choice," Mr Woodroffe said.
Last week, a version of the car designed by artist Tracey Emin fetched £42,000 at auction.
The money raised will go to PEAS – a fund-raising project for Ugandan school libraries.
