Half a century on, a tribute to pioneering ‘toy’ rally drivers

The Liege-Brescia-Liege 2008 rally will take place from Belgium commencing July 11th, for ten days, and will follow the route taken by the rallying pioneers 50 years before. The challenge comprises 3300km of gruelling roads, including passes through the Alps, Dolomites and Yugoslavia – and all in cars of less than 500cc.

Entries will cost £2700 (3995 euros) before 30 April 2008, which includes 11 nights accommodation and all meals for two people, plus all maps.

Fiat will be entering their ‘500’ models, and to commemorate their 1958 successes, when of 36 entries, the 500s were eventually placed 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 13th – only 13 cars finished – they will also be providing brand new Fiat 500s to act as support vehicles in case the classic cars suffer mechanical breakdowns.
