Citroen has unveiled its new five-seat C4 Picasso, an MPV described as "distinctively different" from its competitors as well as its seven-seat stablemate, the Grand C4 Picasso.

According to the automaker, the C4 Picasso boasts the "lightest, most spacious interior in the sector", as well as cutting-edge technology.

A number of firsts for the five-seat compact MPV sector are incorporated into the model, including a parking space measurement system, hill start assist, an automatic electric parking brake, air quality sensors, scented air freshener and a lane departure warning system.

The C4 Picasso’s exterior is described as "dynamic and visually arresting", with an option for the vehicle’s wave-shaped waistline to be highlighted in chrome. This can be complemented by 16-, 17-, or 18-inch alloy wheels.

A choice of four engines is available with the C4 Picasso – 127hp and 143hp 16V petrol units and diesel plants offering 110hp and 138hp. The diesel engines are capable of emissions as low as 150g/km.

The compact MPV offers 605 litres of boot space underneath the luggage cover, rising to 1,734 litres when rear seats are folded flat.

Xavier Duchemin, managing director of Citroen UK, said: "Citroen now offers UK new car buyers the widest ever choice of MPVs from a single manufacturer.

"With its dynamic styling, cutting-edge technology, and light, bright and airy interior, the new C4 Picasso has all the right ingredients to stand out from the five-seat MPV crowd."
