Audi has been tipped to become the world’s most successful premium brand by 2015, following a sixth successive year of record sales in the UK.
Last year Audi UK recorded a 5.7 per cent increase on 2005, selling 86,003 cars, compared to 82,496 the year before.
Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management of Audi AG, pointed out that the brand is also set to announce record levels of revenue and earnings.
"Audi is the fastest-growing premium brand," Mr Stadler added. "This puts us well on our way to becoming the most successful premium manufacturer in the world by 2015."
Gary Savage, head of operations for Audi UK, said that 2006 illustrated the growing popularity that the brand has with British motorists and described the 5.7 per cent growth as a "remarkable achievement" in a market that saw an overall decline of 3.9 per cent.
"Particular highlights for us were record A3 and A6 salesâ€¦and an outstanding reception for both the RS 4 quattro and the new TT, which put paid to our entire 2006 UK allocation even before it was launched," Mr Savage explained.
"The fact that our order bank for 2007 is already 73 per cent ahead of last year can only bode well for our performance in the coming months."
The UK is Audi’s second biggest export market, after the USA.
