Although having now been replaced in the Vauxhall range by the Insignia, the Vectra is - despite being the butt of many jokes - a well-performing and practical executive car. The last generation (post 2005) in particular did much to quell the unfavourable reputation of the early models, and features a pleasingly simple yet sophisticated design, good handling (both on its natural habitat the motorway, and on city roads), and a comfortable and refined interior. Excellent engines - including a 2.2 petrol which is calm when cruising and punchy when pushed, and a smooth 1.9 litre diesel - are a constant on all Vectras, and so while only the later models might have real panache, all are more than capable of performing. ...
