In 1994, when the first RAV4 was released, the crossover SUV market was non-existent, as was the idea of an off-road vehicle designed specifically for life on the road. Now in its fourth generation, it may not be as revolutionary (the trouble with inventing a class is that you are essentially throwing down the gauntlet for every other manufacturer to try and better you) but it's still a versatile, spacious car (586 litre boot space), which handles and rides well.
