As the luxury arm of Toyota, Lexus might not carry the same desirability that some of its luxury competitors do (particularly the Germans), but that's not to say that they don't offer a very good alternative. Modern, refined and powerful, Lexus has some way to go to match their German rivals, but as a comfortable and efficient second option, they excel.
Lexus Overview
Unlike many of its rivals, Lexus strays from the oil-burning engines commonly found in saloons. Instead, all cars apart from the IS - a mature, well-equipped and good handling saloon which comes with a diesel option - feature petrol-electric hybrids. The mid-sized exec GS, comes with just the environmentally friendly hybrid engine option, yet offers plenty of power if pushed. The same engines can be found in the compact SUV RX, which remains powerful and refined despite its atypical engine. The German big three are still undoubtedly the more desirable, prestigious option in the luxury market, but Lexus are fast becoming the most popular affordable alternative.
