Like the 3 Series in the class below it, the BMW 5 Series is a powerhouse of German automotive engineering, and sits right at the top of its class. Although it now faces stiff competition - particularly from the Jaguar XF - the 5 Series remains the perennial executive saloon. Of that series, the 520 in particular embodies what makes it so good. Spacious, powerful and refined, it blends high performance (0-60 in under 8 seconds), with sharp handling and a luxurious interior to produce a car that is a joy to drive. Also surprisingly efficient, there are few areas in which it doesn't deliver, and while it might not necessarily excel outright in one, the strength of its all-round abilities makes it very hard to beat. ...
