The BMW 1 Series might not have the same hold on its class like its bigger brother the 3 Series, but that is not to say that it doesn't stand out as one of the leaders. Though, to compare anything other than another 3 Series to the 3 Series will bring about negative results, so some comparative shortcomings can be expected.
