The only hatchback in the current BMW range, the 1 Series is a luxury, refined offering in a market very rarely concerned with such attributes. And, so the 116 model might be one step up on the smallest 114 of the series, but still sits at the lower end of the BMW power spectrum. Luckily however, this has little effect on performance, and the 116 manages to pull away briskly (hitting 62mph in 10.8 seconds), and reach a top speed of 125mph; which is arguably more than you'll ever need in a hatchback. It also maintains the same responsive BMW steering, yet it does suffer slightly with a lack of refinement.
