German motor manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) has announced that it sold more than six million vehicles over 2007 – the first time it has ever done so during the course of a year.
In total, the firm sold 6.19 million automobiles – a 7.9 per cent jump on statistics collated for 2006.
All of its eight brands recorded success, it added, including Audi, which delivered 964,000 vehicles.
Similarly, Skoda reported a new record delivery amount of 630,000, an increase of 14.6 per cent.
Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board of management at the firm, commented on the significance of the achievement.
He said: "Vehicle sales in excess of six million represent an important milestone for us. I am convinced our great cars, attractive prices and further models will help us to beat the record yet again this year."
Volkswagen was originally founded in 1937 by the German Auto Association.
