The ACFO Car of the Year Award has been given to the Volkswagen Golf for the first time.

According to the body, the decision to honour the vehicle is indicative of the industry’s leaning towards more fuel efficient, CO2-friendly cars.

It added that build quality and depth of model were also key areas which swayed the voting of the panel.

ACFO chairman Julie Jenner commented that the awards represent the true face of the sector.

She said: "Once again, voting by ACFO members was highly competitive with more car models than usual gaining numbers of votes, thereby further underlining the increasing flexibility of company car choice lists to meet the many forms of fleet demand."

Officials from the motor manufacturer will be on-hand at a dinner on Wednesday November 28th in order to pick up the gong.

ACFO is a support organisation within the fleet industry.
