The top safety features of the Vauxhall Corsa were displayed recently when a motorist was lucky to avoid major injuries after crashing into a cow on his travels, it has been reported.

Martin Conlin saw the one-ton Fresian cow smash through his windscreen after the incident on the A350 near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The 42-year-old was lucky to escape with minor injuries to his hand following the incident, while the animal also survived after being sedated by a vet.

Mr Conlin told the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: "My hand got caught between the steering wheel and the cow and I had a small injury to my hand but that was it.

"Although me and my family can look at the funny side now it could have been game over for me."

It was added that eight of the cows and a bull had escaped from a nearby field and had begun to make their way across the dual carriageway.

The car was beyond repair following the head-on collision.

As well as being able to travel 70.6 miles on a gallon of fuel, the Vauxhall Corsa has also been given a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
