Brazilian legend: ‘Lewis will win the title’

Posted in Racing news news on September 25th, 2008

Brazilian F1 racing legend Emerson Fittipaldi has tipped Lewis Hamilton to win this season’s drivers’ championship.

Fittipaldi should know a thing or two about what it takes to win the crown - he was champion twice himself.

But while the 61-year-old thinks Hamilton will win it doesn’t mean that he wants him to win.

He told BBC London 94.9: "With my Brazilian heart I say yes, Felipe Massa will do it. He’s committed to win.

"But if I use my logical side I think Lewis will take the title."

"Lewis is incredible, I’m a great admirer. He’s doing what no Grand Prix driver has ever done before in their first two years - he’s outstanding."

Another F1 legend, three-times world champion Jackie Stewart, is also keeping a keen eye on the season’s dramatic events.

He thinks that the stewards made a poor decision when handing Hamilton the 25-second time penalty that cost him victory in the Belgian Grand Prix.

But Stewart remains optimistic about his fellow Brit’s championship chances.

"Despite what has happened this week, I am sure he will not let it affect him in any way," he told sportinglife.com.
