Reva electric car company has announced details about the European launch of a new lithium-ion (li-ion) battery and fast-charge station which will charge its cars more quickly and efficiently.

The Reva L-ion is the culmination of more than two years of testing and boasts a range of 120 km (75 miles) per charge, providing a top speed of 80 km (50 miles) per hour.

Complementing it perfectly is a new fast-charge station with the ability to charge the Reva L-ion to 90 per cent in sixty minutes.

These technological developments will offer Reva customers an increased range, faster acceleration and shorter charging time.

The manufacturers also believe that using the new battery and charging station will mean drivers will lower their energy consumption and gain "improved cold weather performance, maintenance-free battery operation and a longer operating life".

So will a range of 120km be sufficient for modern car drivers? Reva research has found that 93 per cent of car journeys are less than 40 km and 97 per cent are less than 80 km.
