A drivers’ association has called on the government to remove all speed humps from British roads.

The Association of British Drivers (ABD) comments that the safety measures are nothing more than "inverted pot holes" and can be a risk to motorists.

It cites a report in the Manchester Evening News which states that a police van lost control after hitting a hump and flew into the garden of a family in Bolton.

Nigel Humphries, spokesman for the ABD, commented that a common misconception that the features do some good exists.

He said: "We [need] to get away from the simplistic notion that speed humps make roads safer, they do not, they often make them more dangerous."

Last week, the ABD called on the government to stop crushing seized cars.

The group claimed that selling them complete or in parts would help raise money which could be better to more productive use.
