People looking to buy a new car could benefit from looking into whether the vehicle can be fitted with optional and special equipment, it has been claimed.

According to ZF Friedrichshafen AG, there are products on the market which can reduce energy consumption as well as improve the driving experience.

In addition, drivers can pick up damping and levelling system, automatic transmissions and active steering processes.

Similarly, accessories can help increase safety and comfort for motorists, although many are unaware, the company added.

"Car dealers entice their customers above all with discounts and add-ons – however, seldom with sensible optional equipment," the company stated.

Hans-Georg Harter, chief executive of the firm, said: "Often, neither the dealers nor the customers know enough about them."

Motorists may also consider picking up a satellite navigation device in order to map their journeys in the future and avoid getting lost.
