Black cab drivers will have something new to talk about today – the good old London Taxi has been voted Britain’s most iconic vehicle.

Passengers will be hoping that fares don’t rise as a result of 7,000 Holiday Inn poll participants voting for the London cab ahead of the Aston Martin, Mini Cooper and Jaguar E-type.

Rob Laidler, sales director for LTI Vehicles, said: "It’s not hard to see why our cab is loved by millions of Britons and this result serves only to reinforce its iconic status.

"Visitors to this country always quote a ride in a London Taxi as one of their favourite activities. This helps make London a unique city in the world with the best taxis and taxi drivers by far."

Fish and chips pipped Her Majesty the Queen to second place with old-fashioned pubs in third.

So a trip in a London Taxi to Buckingham Palace while eating some fish and chips (if the driver will let you) truly can be described as a Brit’s idea of heaven.
