Great deals on vehicles including the Vauxhall Vectra and Volkswagen Passat are to be on offer at an annual money-saving event in Scotland, reports the Dumfries and Galloway Standard.
Car retailer Arnold Clark is to run Arnold’s Awards for three days from June 5th, with motorists able to take advantage of a host of different deals including strong finance packages to raffles offering hot air ballooning trips.
Among the deals on offer are an £11,200 saving on the cost from new of a 2008-plate Vauxhall Vectra and a 2008 Passat with leather interior and chrome surrounds from less than £13,000.
According to the publication, Sir Arnold said: "Arnold’s Awards is definitely one of the highlights in the calendar for us and customers alike.
"With such amazing deals on offer, coupled with the outstanding branch entertainment, customers looking for a new or used car can do so whilst enjoying a free family day out."
As well as visitors getting advice on which cars may best suit their needs, they can also benefit from free entertainment, refreshments and food.
The event is taking place across all Arnold Clark dealerships.
Attention to detail has taken place in all areas of the Volkswagen Passat, from the interior craftsmanship to performance engineering, according to the manufacturer.
The benefit of getting a "superb" ride over all road surfaces is one of the highlighting features of the Volkswagen Passat CC, according to one reviewer.
Peter Hayward states in the Ayrshire Post that the Passat CC is a saloon that "looks like a coupe" and is more than capable of holding its own with other vehicles across the executive transport fleet.
He remarks that adjustable dampers help to improve the ride quality of the Passat, while the vehicle also provides "marvellous road holding and huge grip".
Motorists looking for some key facts of the vehicle may be interested to know that it can accelerate from still to 62 miles per hour in 7.9 seconds, while overall having the capability to hit a top speed of 147 miles per hour.
Furthermore, motorists can expect to travel 35 miles on the combine cycle per gallon of fuel, while driving in comfort thanks to the fitting of "supportive and comfortable" leather seats.
According to Volkswagen, the Passat CC has a "sleek aerodynamic profile and luxurious cabin".
Motorists who buy a new Volkswagen Passat will witness that the vehicle features new indoor and outdoor mirrors from leading supplier Gentex Corporation.
Auto-dimming interior and exterior rearview mirrors will be a feature of the 2009 Passat CC, with indoor mirror being fitted as standard and the driver’s side outdoor mirror coming as an optional extra.
Among the benefits of the Gentex mirrors is that driving in the dark is made much safer thanks to the mirrors darkening automatically when bright headlights appear from vehicles travelling behind.
Gentex senior vice president Enoch Jen said: "This is an exciting vehicle for Volkswagen as it has positioned the Passat CC in the mid-class car segment but equips it with formerly upper mid-class features."
He added the deal is also promising for his company as the Passat is a sought after vehicle worldwide, meaning the products will become noticed by a potential new batch of customers.
Buyers of the Volkswagen Passat CC are given the choice from different types of interior upholstery including black Silversprint cloth and black Alcantara leather.
Motorists unimpressed with the look of their used Volkswagen Passat may wish to take a glance towards the CC version of the range, which is blessed with a better appearance, it has been stated.
Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Dan Neil comments that some of the changes made to the original Passat provide the 2009 Volkswagen Passat CC with improvements in terms of looks.
Among the changes made to the four-door vehicle include the car being both lower and longer, while also shrinking in the back so that it "accommodates only two butts, not three".
In terms of the size, the CC is 2.2 inches lower than the original Passat, while also being 1.2 inches longer.
Further notes made on the vehicle by Mr Neil highlights that it has a "gently bowed roof line", a "sleek" windshield and "frameless side windows".
Overall, Mr Neil states that the vehicle is "not a bad car", which is quick and stays "well-planted" in corners.
Tony Dron wrote in the Telegraph last year that the older CC had "stylish looks".
Motorists on the lookout for a used Volkswagen Passat may be interested in a new review of the model’s latest incarnation – the Passat BlueMotion 2.
In a four-star assessment of the Passat BlueMotion 2, Channel 4′s motoring site 4Car said that the new model "still feels fresh", despite being based on the current generation Passat.
The car’s main advantages, according to the review, include its high efficiency and low emissions levels, as well as the flexibility of its common rail fuel injection engine.
Breaking each aspect of the Passat BlueMotion 2′s performance down into different categories, 4Car gave the vehicle top marks in both the ‘running costs’ and ‘safety and security’ sections.
Standard features on the updated model include air conditioning, electronic stability control and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Motorists looking for used cars can choose from saloon, estate and coupe versions of the Volkswagen Passat, which competes in the family car market with models such as the Ford Mondeo and the Mazda 6.
The BlueMotion label, which may be familiar to used Volkswagen Passat drivers, is to be the focus of a new package by the manufacturer.
A recent survey from Fleet News found that the environmental label was one of the most recognised throughout the UK and to build on this Volkswagen has highlighted some of its benefits.
Among the vehicles to include the environmental technologies are the Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion 2 and the Volkswagen Passat TSI EcoFuel.
The BlueMotion 2 features a stop-start system, which turns of the engine when the vehicle becomes stationary, while generating 128g/km of CO2 emissions.
Meanwhile, the TSI EcoFuel is powered by natural gas and uses a turbocharged and supercharged direct-inject engine.
This helps the vehicle to have the capabilities of reaching a maximum speed of 130 miles per hour, alongside having an "excellent" fuel economy.
If the natural gas level begins to run out for drivers of a used Volkswagen Passat, then the vehicle can be switched so that it runs on petrol.
According to Channel Four, the assets that the BlueMotion 2 has include it being economical, "quick and agile", as well as being "impressive looking".
A naturally-aspirated 3.6 litre V6 engine developing 300 PS and 258lbs/ft of torque has been fitted to both saloon and estate versions of the Volkswagen Passat R36.
Benefiting from the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, capable of diverting
torque to either axle, the Passat R36 has a six-speed gearbox.
Pedestrians can recognise the car by its distinctive front grille, as well as the bi-xenon headlights. Since most people will only see the rear of the vehicle, after the fastest accelerating Volkswagen will have already overtaken, they can admire the set of twin tailpipes affixed to
either side of the bumper.
It is launched with 18 inch wheels in a choice of four colours – silver,
black, blue and grey – with new models planned after launch.
On the Volkswagen stand at Geneva the Passat TSI concept car will demonstrate the EcoFuel system which will mix petrol power with natural gas economy.
A 1.4-litre TSI 150 PS engine features both a supercharger and a turbocharger operating sequentially to provide relatively high power outputs from a small capacity engine.
The EcoFuel meets the ‘Euro 5′ standards of greater economy and lower emissions. With a top speed of 130 mph and the capability to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 9.7 seconds, this makes it a practical road vehicle.
Volkswagen plans to sell a saloon and estate version in mainland Europe by the end of 2008 yet has still to announce a launch date for sales in the UK.
The new Passat from Volkswagen is using state-of-the-art self-sealing tyres from Continental.
The new tyres use technology called ContiSeal, which enables a vehicle to continue on its journey even if one of its tyres has been punctured by a screw or a nail.
A protective layer underneath the tread can seal holes and prevent any air from escaping.
"The seal works on nearly all leaks caused by objects up to 5mm in diameter" said Continental’s Detlef Zschorner. "That means they can prevent about 85 per cent of typical flat tyres."
VW is hoping the technology will appeal to motorists worried about the inconvenience of a puncture.
Objects on the road can easily damage tyres, which means a system like ContiSeal can be a major advantage, especially on long journeys.
It is also an important safety feature, as tyres blown while travelling at speed can cause serious accidents.
The Volkswagen Passat Estate TDI 4Motion has been named the overall winner of the inaugural Towcar Awards 2007, judged by What Car?, Practical Caravan an the Camping and Caravanning Club.
A total of 50 cars were tested for the award, with such aspects as towing ability, practicality, value for money, performance when not towing and safety all taken into consideration.
While the Passat was the overall winner, the VW Golf TDI Match, Volvo V70, Audi Allroad Quattro Tiptronic and Land Rover Discovery HSE Auto also triumphed in their respective weight categories.
The Kia Rio was also recommended as the best ‘budget buy’, while the Land Rover Freelander was tipped as the best compact 4×4.
Steve Fowler, editor of What Car?, said: "After five days of intensive testing, the Volkswagen Passat Estate emerged as a clear winner.
"It makes great sense whatever you’re towing, but just as crucial are its abilities in everyday driving and the fact that it’s a sound ownership proposition."
