The Mark 6 version of the Volkswagen Golf GTI includes a number of key features which help it to elicit a "must have" feeling in some of its fans, it has been revealed.
In a review for the Independent, Sean O’Grady writes that the Mark 6 Volkswagen Golf GTI successfully blends practicality and performance to set it apart from competitors which include the Skoda Octavia VRS, Vauxhall Astra VXR, Honda Civic Type R and Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works.
He also comments on the "intelligent eagerness of the dual clutch semi-auto gearbox" – although a six-speed manual is also available – and the fact that the model retains much of its aesthetic appeal.
Other features include fuel consumption of 38.2 mpg; CO2 emissions of 173g/kg; a top speed of 147 mph and a zero-to-60 time of 6.9 seconds.
Potential Mark 6 Volkswagen Golf GTI buyers can also look forward to a GTI styling pack, rear tinted windows from B pillar back and a uniquely shaped roof spoiler.
Volkswagen has released its new Golf GTI, which features 17-inch alloy wheels and an engine which can deliver an extra 10bhp.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI hatchback will retail at £23,000, which will get consumers a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that gets from zero to 62 miles per hour in just under seven seconds.
Its fuel consumption is 38.7 mpg and is described by the Richard Hammond in the Mirror newspaper as being a "serious, sensible, tough, usable everyday car".
The Top Gear presenter adds: "It has the kind of competence and confidence you see in top-level sportsmen and women or helicopter pilots."
Ford has also released a new hatchback this month. The new Focus RS has been described by the Sun newspaper as a vehicle which "oozes with attitude".
However, the hatchback will not be released in the US as it hasn’t been "homologated" for that market, which bosses at Ford said would be too expensive, Autocar reports.
A special edition of the Volkeswagen Golf GTI is available to be ordered
with first models arriving in June. Called the Pirelli, after the
distinctive wheels, the last time a Golf GTI had the name Pirelli was 25
years previously.
Introduced in May 1983, the original GTI Pirelli was based on the MkI
Golf and featured the distinctive Pirelli ‘P’ 13-inch alloy wheels. The
2008 version sports five-spoke 18-inch versions fitted, appropriately,
with a set of 225/40 R18 Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
The 2008 Mk V Golf GTI Pirelli is available in three colours – reflex
silver, diamond black and blue graphite.
The interior features a half leather seat, inset with an
especially designed cloth which appears to form the pattern of a
tyre-tread.
The 2.0-litre T-FSI engine has had its’ output raised from the standard
200 PS to 230 PS, and either driven through a six-speed manual or the
twin-clutch DSG gearbox.
Those who are looking forward to the cinema release of action thriller The Bourne Ultimatum can now pretend to be a movie hero themselves with a new stunt simulator from Volkswagen.
The film, which centres on super-spy Jason Bourne – played by Matt Damon, also features a number of Volkswagen vehicles including the Golf GT and Touareg.
On www.bournestuntsimulator.com, car lovers can create a host of stunts using action sequences pre-loaded on the website and watch their handiwork unfold just like a real Hollywood hero.
"The stunt simulator puts movie fans at the heart of stunt scene co-ordination," said Volkswagen Marketing’s Sally Chapman.
"Users can experiment with hundreds of different camera angles, and edit sequences of events just like they would if they were making a real film."
Cars often get starring roles in films, with many becoming an integral part of the movie itself – such as Minis in The Italian Job and Ford Mustangs in the 1960s classic thriller Bullitt.
