Toyota unveils improved fuel efficiency in Yaris

Toyota has upgraded its Yaris model for 2009, improving the car’s fuel efficiency to cut running costs and boost its environmental performance.

Used Toyota dealers will be pleased to see the new car’s launch, as it could increase demand for the Yaris model.

"Too often motorists are expected to make sacrifices in performance or comfort for the sake of environmental considerations," Toyota said in a statement.

"Toyota doesn’t believe that needs to be the case and with the launch of its 2009 Yaris demonstrates that lower emissions and fuel consumption can be delivered without compromise," the firm added.

Used Toyota dealers could benefit from the new version’s arrival on the market this month, as drivers trade in their less efficient model for the 2009 one.

The new Yaris includes an automatic "Stop & Start system", which Toyota says gives the car "best-in-class fuel economy".

In a recent review of the 2009 Yaris by AutomoBlog, the latest model was described as "a fun little car with plenty of personality".

Lost – but not in a Yaris

Toyota has upgraded its Yaris range and the new SR models now come with integrated (but removable) TomTom satellite navigation alongside the audio.

The SRs also have lowered sport suspension, rear roof spoiler, chromed exhaust and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The price tag covers nine airbags (with knee protection), remote central double locking, air conditioning, electric front windows, front fog lamps and the one-touch, ‘Easy Flat’, folding, rear seats.

The Yaris SR comes with the 1.3 VVT-i and 1.4 D-4D engines.

The Toyota audio system not only offers the satellite navigation unit, but also offers touch screen operation, Bluetooth connectivity and USB connection for MP3 players.

Toyota enhances Yaris

Toyota has announced updates to its Yaris range with the addition of the TR trim to the range.

Focus with the new model will be on "extra style at a bargain price", Toyota claims, with all the features of the T3 included as well as some "eye-catching extras".

A choice of engines powers the Yaris TR range – a 1.3-litre VVT petrol unit or a 1.4-litre diesel powerplant – to function alongside either a five-speed manual or MultiMode gearbox.

On an aesthetic level, the new Yaris variant will feature 15-inch Savara alloy wheels with locking wheel nuts, front fog lamps, smart scuff plates for the front door sills and silver-finished door handles.

A total of seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, has been incorporated into the car to enhance safety, while comfort has been improved with air conditioning, electric front windows and a six-speaker sound system capable of playing CDs and digital music files.

The Yaris TR will be available in both three- and five-door body styles with finishes of eclipse black, Venetian silver, Decuma grey metallic and chilli red.
